Computer Screensaver

Invited by the Dia Art Foundation to produce a piece of net art, Francis Alÿs proposed a screen saver to download from the Foundation's site. Taking his inspiration from a drawing by Alberti – the theorist of perspective - he links the windows which open onto the virtual space of our computers equipped with Windows, with an idea of painting as a window on the world. First shot in cinema format, The Thief evokes numerous episodes of films and its white frame can also be seen as a projection screen.
