A political weapon. [memory is political]
This film is a traumatic memory, a testimony. This scream of an individual and societal wound exposes to our spectator eyes another way of considering at reality, atomized, choked, that we no longer imagine. This film confronts us, puts us face to face with our responsibilities, or from another angle, invites us to overthrow our condition of victim. We are taken, witness(es) and subject(s), to question our sprawling, intimate and collective relationship to violence. This film is a survival drive. This film is also my tribute to the beings who have, are or will be one day dispossessed of themselves.
Facing the oncoming trauma. Disruption of the cycle.
Resistance.
Age/era. Inside. Rage. [History is scientific]
The killing-History custom says that from the cage in which we are stick, from this predatory, dissonant and alienating world, you are a simple piece of flesh offered to track, identify, control, exploit, infiltrate, abuse, shred, devour.
In our stories it’s otherwise. We see ourselves for what we are, tied, impossible to catch. Our anger heals our wounds, finds hope, builds breaches, reveals, and then, transforms. Our insurrection is powerful and erotic. Every minute the verb is to resist, to disobey, to defy, to overthrow the ancestral gesture, to mute.
In our hands of silicon young germs are growing.
Let’s dance before being spotted. Let’s dance before being skinned.
Ov
Ov is an artist and filmmaker with a feather of fire. Taking root in assimilated wild waters of the west, making her way up to high schools and institutions (Wits Johannesburg, Le Fresnoy, Unesco) passing through numerous major international films festivals (Cannes Court Métrage, FID Marseille, Festival dei Popoli, Nouveau Cinéma Montréal, Ann Arbor, DOK Leipzig, FEST New Directors, Annecy Animation, Concorto, Split, London Animation, Göteborg, Uppsala) and a few TV broadcasts (France 3), Ov has attempted to alert society to the erroneous trajectory our humanity is taking. But it was indeed in the sumptuous borderless marshlands plentiful of resistance that she found many seeds of truth, of infinite potentials. In these scattered zones, Ov and her friends, multiple and complex creatures, with all their colors, hearts, mentalities and spirits, come alive without respite. There, they meet each other, recognize each other, love, flourish, take care of the world, weave and firmly defend the powerful bonds that connect them to life. Their vision is a deep and dignified life, one that we touch with tears in our eyes at the brink of time, legacy from our wombs. In this great movement of transformation, they recreate themselves, from each blaze they reborn with a more beautiful, a more conscious and freer energy, thus they continue their dance and weave the living all around them. On this enlightened common path, they shape a holistic, dialectical art, emerging from and for the heart of the worlds. A revolutionary art, an art confident in its capacity to overturn the hegemonic order that destroys the fabric at the foundation of all forms of life, an art filled with hope that is not afraid to defend its ethical and moral values in the face of the enemy, an art of struggle that knows its responsibilities towards the future generations, an art that writes history and embodies it right now, that takes up the powerful millennial flame and pays tribute to the immense courage of those who gave their last feather for the freedom of all of us. Ov and her friends with open wings were ready to enter the fire, if the fire was reality, they were ready to honor life and to become this fire.
