Lou Chenivesse

Born in 1994 in Paris (France)

Lou Chenivesse is a visual artist, director and set designer. Born in 1994, she grew up between Egypt, Syria and France. After studying in Hypokhâgne, she returned to the Beaux-Arts in Nantes. During her studies, she completed an Erasmus program at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Germany in the video section. From a multidisciplinary perspective, she takes courses in astrology and scenography, and workshops with various choreographers. She invited choreographer Laurent Cèbe to give dance classes at the Beaux-Arts de Nantes and staged a performance at the Théâtre Universitaire de Nantes. She graduated with a DNSEP from the Beaux-Arts de Nantes, cinema section, and a Master*s degree in Culture, Civilization and Society from the University of Nantes.

She then joined the studios of Poush-Manifesto in Paris, assisting artist Laura Gozlan, taking part in various exhibitions and developing her practice of space through scenography for live performance. In 2022, she was accepted at Le Fresnoy, studio of contemporary arts.

In her work, which includes film, installation, photography, performance and writing, she interweaves realities both fictional and documentary, tangible and invisible. She highlights the off-screen, the ob-scene, that which is out of sight. The ghost, both psychoanalytical - a concept that refers to a secret passed down from generation to generation and haunting the subject - and mystical, is a common thread running through her work. Her approach takes the form of mortuary rites, the ablution of spectres and magical acts.
